In this second book in the Ranger's Apprentice Series, Will continues his training under Halt as a Ranger. However, with news of Morgorath's movement toward war, Will and his friend Horace are sent to recruit troops from a neighboring country. On their mission, they find that Morgorath's plans are much more nefarious and dangerous than they previously believed. Both Will and Horace's abilities are tested to the limit as they fight for their country and their lives.

The Ranger's Apprentice series continues to be a good series for teen readers. In this second book, Flanagan introduces a strong heroine with new action and story twists. A great fantasy and adventure read.
