Between the Lines by Jodi Picoult and Samantha Van Leer

Between the Lines is a modern fairy tale co-authored by Jodi Picoult and her 15-year-old daughter in a first attempt at young adult fiction. It is light, entertaining, and remains age appropriate. The book also includes some wonderful illustrations that give it more of a fairy tale feel.

Delilah is a troubled teenager who feels out of place in her high school and social life. To avoid her real-life struggles, she is drawn more and more to a childish fairy tale called Between the Lines . Her mother is concerned enough about this obsession that she forces Delilah to visit a psychiatrist. However, Delilah's obsession is deeper than having a favorite story. Oliver, the prince of the fairy tale, has been talking to Delilah. He feels trapped in the world of the book and wants nothing more than to escape and live real life with Delilah.

The book includes portions of the fairy tale as well as narration from both Delilah and Oliver's perspectives. It is a fun read for young teens who wish for a fairy tale life.
