In her sequel to Cinder, Marissa Meyer continues the story of Cinder, but introduces some new characters and a new fairy tale. Scarlet Benoit's grandmother is missing and Scarlet will do anything to find her. In her search, Scarlet meets Wolf, a street fighter who offers to help Scarlet find her grandmother. Although Scarlet doesn't trust Wolf, she is drawn to him and he seems to know some of the secrets behind her grandmother's disappearance.
This creative retelling of Little Red Riding Hood, soon connects to the story of Cinder. The people behind Scarlet's missing grandmother are also tied to evil Queen Levana. Scarlet finds that her fate is connected to Cinder. Scarlet and Cinder must work together to defeat the Lunar Queen and save the world from Lunar control. This futuristic fairy tale continues Meyer's creative approach to well-known tales. Scarlet and Wolf add a new dimension to the story and Meyer's writing and storytelling improves. This is a fun read for lovers of fairy tales as well as those who enjoy science fiction.
