Team Human by Justine Larbalestier and Sarah Rees Brennan

Team Human by Justine Larbalestier and Sarah Rees Brennan

If you read paranormal fiction, but find yourself rolling your eyes at the drama of it all, Team Human is a perfect choice. However, if you are a devoted fan of the Twilight series and feel slighted if someone hints it is less than perfect, you may not be able to handle this one. Larbalestier and Brennan are obvious vampire fiction fans, but their tongue-in-cheek humor keeps this vampire story from taking itself too seriously.

Mel lives in the town of New Whitby, a city founded and highly populated by vampires, but that doesn't mean she is comfortable with a vampire attending her high school. She is even more upset when her best friend Cathy falls in love with the vampire. While Mel tries to break up Cathy's vampire relationship, she is also trying to solve the mystery of another friend's missing father. To top it off, she develops her own crush on a boy raised entirely by vampires. These forces combine to create a satirical, but thoughtful story about friendship, prejudice, and life choices. Team Human is a fast-paced, paranormal novel with humor as well as depth. It is a fun read, but unlike other paranormal romance, it stays completely age appropriate for its intended audience.
