Dragon Slippers by Jessica Day George

My eight-year-old daughter loved this series, but I enjoyed it also.�� Creel's aunt wants to sacrifice her to the local dragon in order to draw a knight to the rescue. However, Creel talks her own way out of the situation and develops a friendship with some dragons. Her friendship is valuable in a country where war between humans and dragons is about to begin.

With fun characters and interesting fantasy, this can also be a good read aloud. Series recommended.
