These books are for kids just learning to read with help or on their own. The stories are interesting for the kids, but told with only a few sentences (or sometimes just a few words) per page.

Commander Toad in Space, by Jane Yolen

A great series of books for science fiction junkies and their kids.  Commander Toad plays off of themes from Star Trek and Star Wars with many puns included.  The kids enjoy the crazy stories and parent enjoy the silly references to science fiction classics.
