Bloody Jack: Being an Account of the Curious Adventures of Mary “Jacky” Faber, Ship’s Boy, by L.A. Meyer

The Bloody Jack series is first adventure and second historical fiction. Set in England (and other places in the nautical world) during the Napoleonic War, Meyer slips history into the adventures of Jacky Faber. In my opinion, Jacky Faber is one of the greatest female characters and always fun to read. Because of some mature subject matter, I would recommend these books for older teenage readers.

Hi, Libby. My dear friend Tamera suggested I check out your blog. As an avid reader and parent of an avid 13 year old reader, many many thanks! I was going to suggest that you read and review the Jacky Faber books, but it looks like you beat me to it! Love these stories – this is a series that my daughter has read 2x (3x?) through, and will probably read again. I add my recommendation to yours.

    • I love Jacky Faber. If your daughter enjoys rereading, she really ought to try the audio books. Katherine Kelgren is the reader and she is fantastic.
