The Goose Girl, by Shannon Hale

While traveling to a new kingdom to marry the crown prince, Ani is betrayed by her serving woman and guards.  Ani finds a place as a goose girl at the palace and then works to overpower her dishonerable servant.  As she makes friends with fellow servants, Ani learns about true friendship and her own inner worth.
